Founded in 2003 by Frank Chen, Bright Wire Electric has grown into one of Portland's most trusted electrical contractors โ still family-owned, still personally supervised by Frank on every major job.
Frank Chen grew up in Northeast Portland and spent his early career as an apprentice under veteran master electrician Don Hartley, learning the trade on old Craftsman bungalows and mid-century ranch homes that make up so much of Portland's residential stock. He earned his journeyman license in 1998 and his master electrician license in 2001.
In 2003, Frank launched Bright Wire Electric with a single van and a commitment to do things right โ no shortcuts, no code violations, no work he wouldn't be proud to stand behind. Twenty-three years later, Bright Wire has grown to a team of eight licensed electricians, but Frank still personally reviews every estimate and stays available by phone to any client who has a question.
"Electrical work is invisible โ it's inside your walls. Homeowners have to trust us completely. That's a responsibility I don't take lightly. Every wire we touch, we stand behind."
When Lisa Chen joined Bright Wire Electric in 2019, she became the first female journeyman electrician on the team โ and one of a small number in the Portland metro. Lisa earned her journeyman license after completing a 4-year apprenticeship through the Oregon IBEW program while simultaneously finishing her degree in Electrical Technology at Portland Community College.
Lisa specializes in EV charger installations and smart home electrical systems. She has completed over 600 EV charger installs across the Portland metro โ more than any other electrician on the team โ and is deeply familiar with the Oregon PGE and Pacific Power rebate programs that can save homeowners $200โ$500 on qualified installations.
"The shift to electric vehicles is the biggest change in residential electrical in decades. Homeowners deserve someone who knows exactly what they're getting into โ the right circuit size, the right charger, the right panel capacity. I love being that person."
Every member of our team is licensed, background-checked, and trained to Frank's exacting standards. We don't subcontract โ every job is done by our own electricians.
Oregon Master Electrician license #ECL-16892, issued 2001. Full general liability and workers' compensation. Permits pulled on every qualifying job โ always.
Frank or Lisa personally reviews every estimate. You're not dealing with a call center or a franchise โ you're dealing with the people who will actually show up.
Lisa has completed 600+ EV charger installations. We know every rebate program, every panel upgrade scenario, and every home layout challenge.
Every panel upgrade, rewire, generator install, and EV charger we do is permitted and inspected. Non-permitted work voids homeowner's insurance โ we never skip the paperwork.
