The dark stains you see on your roof aren't dirt — they're a cyanobacteria called Gloeocapsa magma. This living organism feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles, degrading them over time and shortening roof life by years.
We use the ARMA (Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association) recommended soft-wash method: low-pressure application of a diluted sodium hypochlorite solution that kills algae, moss, and lichen at the root without touching the shingles with high pressure.
